A fantastic SEMH school in Bracknell is looking for a Mental Health Support Assistant to help support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The children in the school have a range of mental health needs and therefore require a Support Assistant who is caring, compassionate and up for a challenge!
The children in this SEMH School range from 5 to 18 and have a range of needs. This may include anxiety, trauma, OCD, depression and attachment needs. The children therefore a Learning Support Assistant who has an understanding of mental health, is caring and compassionate and can deal with challenging behaviours.
As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will be provided with all the skills needed to undergo training as a Clinical Psychologist. You will gain first-hand experience working with children with mental health needs and learn about assessing their behaviour. This will allow you to learn about the needs of each child and how to implement learning strategies in the classroom in order for them to reach their full potential. You will also be provided with the unique opportunity of shadowing the therapist and psychologist based on-site at the school and be able to learn from them ahead of your future career.
In this SEMH no two days are the same! However, your general duties will involve supporting and motivating a small group of SEMH pupils in the classroom, supporting both their emotional needs and their learning needs. You will ensure each child reaches their full potential and build a strong rapport with the staff and students. You will foster trust and confidence in the pupils, providing them with a trusted adult. The ideal candidate will have a degree and a C in GCSE Maths and English. An understanding of mental health, and experience working in a similar field is desired. Passion and enthusiasm is essential!
