Are you a university student graduating in June or July and looking for a role to start now or in September? Are you studying sociology, psychology or criminology?

If so, then we can help to gain experience to kick-start your career by supporting you with finding paid work experience in a specialist team in a school setting.

A truly exceptional opportunity to join the team in a niche, outstanding school that provides learning and educational interventions for up to 50 young people with a dedicated vision of nurturing independent learners for adult life.

The school provides learning to students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Autism.

The majority of students have associated special educational needs including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), speech, language, and communication difficulties, as well as oppositional defiance and attachment disorders.

The school has developed a comprehensive, well-rounded, and personalised curriculum accessible to all children and young people, regardless of their past experiences, developmental challenges, and learning difficulties. All students are supported to progress and achieve at a level appropriate to their abilities, and are encouraged to acquire skills, knowledge, attitudes, and qualifications necessary for further education, employment, and independence in adult life.

Responsibilities:

* working one-on-one with a child that needs support in the classroom
* understanding the child’s individual needs, struggles, and set of circumstances
* supporting the child with their education, behavioural and social development
* Accompanying and supporting a child on school outings, sporting or social events
* Encouraging a child to communicate and express themselves and to feel comfortable and confident in their own abilities
* Supporting the teacher in preparation of lessons and materials for learning
* Assessing and keeping records of student’s progress
* Participating in team meetings and training programmes
* Supporting regulations pertaining to the safeguarding of children

Hours and pay:

* Monday to Friday school term time only (39 weeks of the year)
* 08h30 to 15h30 – occasionally 16h00 for training purposes
* Daily rate of £89 to £95 (£445 to £475 per week)

What is required:

* A Degree in a relevant subject such as Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, or English is highly desirable
* Experience with children is highly desirable
* A co-operative working style and practical approach to solving problems
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Flexibility in terms of working patterns
